1st BURES BROWNIES 2007 AGM REPORT

We started the year 2007 with 24 Brownies and in February, we decided to up our numbers to 28 to help relieve the waiting list. We finished the year with 28, with many changes in between. There is now no waiting list - so will be able to take straight from Rainbows as they reach 7 years of age.

We commenced the new year in 2007 with a trip to the local pantomime, Stromboli the Puppet Master, which was enjoyed by all. We celebrated National Thinking Day by holding a Japanese evening with the girls dressed in Kimonos and practised some origami and tasted sushi, much was learned by all. The term was finished off with talks from local emergency department doctor, a dog handler from pets as therapy and Easter crafts.

After Easter we started work on our Environment badge. We have learnt much about recycling and re-using rubbish. At the end of May as part of our badge work we took the girls to Colchester Zoo, which was a very informative and enjoyable day.

In June - we joined with other Guiding packs from the District in a sponsored walk - which was well attended by our Brownies, raising £140.

In July, we took part in the local carnival, the girls enjoyed dressing up; Annie was our theme. We ended the summer term with our usual picnic and games in the park.

In September, the Brownies had a very enjoyable weekend with the Scouting and Guiding Groups - our Brownies took part in all things on offer such as canoeing, archery, air rifle shooting etc. All our Brownies thoroughly enjoyed Saturday evening with the sing song round the camp fire. Again all the Brownies turned up on Sunday morning to renew our promises at the Church Service.

We then started the term working towards the Anglian Outdoor Challenge badge, this included such activates as kite making, den building, a scare crow competition finishing the badge with spooky stories round the camp fire in time for Halloween.

We were lucky enough during the Autumn Term to have two instructors to visit the girls and give them their first taste of karate; this was so successful we have booked them to come again. We attended the Remembrance Day Parade and Service in our village church. The rest of the term was spent busying ourselves with Christmas crafts. We ended the year with a German themed Christmas party.
