Welcome to Cubs
Cubs meet on Thursday evenings from 18.30hrs to 20.00hrs during school term-time.
We follow the National Cub Scout Programme and include a range of activities to allow the Cubs to complete work towards challenge and activity badges. If a Cub completes all the relevant activities set on Pack nights, then they will progressively be awarded badges to display proudly on his uniform. Full details of all the badges can be found on the Scouting website.
Activities are indoor and outdoor and include map & compass work, tracking, short hikes, cooking, tent pitching, making camp gadgets, team and individual tasks, arts & crafts and educational items.
New Cubs will be invested in four-six weeks once they have a Cub top and activity trousers and have learnt their Cub Scout Promise & Law. Investiture will take place at the start of the meeting – family members are welcome to attend.
This can be bought from the Scoutshops on line at www.scouts.org.uk;

Full uniform is to be worn by all Cubs in the Pack
- Cub/Scout Trousers (Youth’s Scout Activity Trousers/blue combat style)
- Scout Uniform Belt and Buckle
- Green sweatshirt top.
These trousers are very hard wearing and this will bring the Cub Pack into line with the Scout Troop and the trousers can be worn in the Scout Troop when you go up. We will supply group scarf and woggle at investiture.
Cubs are usually invited to attend a District event once a year for a two-night camp.
It is important that your child attends Cubs regularly, as we have drawn up a comprehensive and balanced programme of activities, for their enjoyment and education
If your child has decided to leave, it would be appreciated if you would let us know, so we can allocate their space to someone on the waiting list.
Subscriptions are payable to 1st Bures Cubs Scouts. They are currently £38.00 per term. (As from September 2019 – Subscriptions will be: £40.00). Subscription money pays for membership fees to Gilwell Park £42.00, insurance, maintenance of Scout Headquarters/grounds, badges, day/evening out, mileage for mini bus, Pack nights, District events and Leaders travelling expenses.
