DC Challenge – Bradfield Combust

This year it was the turn of Bradfield Combust Scout Camp SiteBradfield Park to host the Sudbury District DC Challenge over the weekend of Saturday 6th-Sunday 7th October. The DC Challenge Camp jointly organized by Julie Penney (ADC) and her District Team.

After arriving at the camp site Scouts pitched their lightweight tents before the rain – then it was off on an observation hike around the footpaths and country roads of Bradfield Combust, St Clare and St George villages. Using the map, compass and route card they set off from the entrance looking at the scenery as we went along the 7 mile route looking for clues to the questions which they had with them.

In the early evening – the Scouts cooked their various meals of pasta & tomato, chicken & Mushroom on their trangia stoves in the mess tents (thanks to Boxford) due to heavy rain.

After the meals – Scouts took part in an indoor camp fire led by Mark Miller (SL Boxford) did his usual camp fire songs and they also constructed their tennis ball rocket launcher out of pringle tubes and to finish off the evening – we served the Scouts of hot dogs and hot chocolate.

Scouts were awoken by Mark Miller playing his bugle on Sunday morning at 7.00am! After breakfast and flag – Scouts went around the bases of air rifle shooting, archery, map symbols, DC Challenge (tennis ball launcher), rope shapes, fire lighting and taking down their tents. The points for the weekend were for: teamwork, meals, tents, observation hike and challenges.
