TROOP PATROL CAMP

LAMARSH PARK WOODS
DAWS CROSS, WHITE COLNE

JUNE 2008

We assembled on Friday 20th June at the Scout Headquarters for our Troop Patrol Camp held at Lamarsh Park Woods, Daws Cross near White Colne. The Scouts cycled up to the camp site with Eddie Gordon and a parent helper with the camping kit going on Nigel’s truck. After arriving at the site - Scouts set about setting up camp – pitching their Patrol Tents and Dining shelters. Afterwards they gathered wood and kindling in the woods ready for the cooking on the altar fires over the next two days.

We awoke on Saturday morning to light rain – but this did not put us off. They lit their fires and cooked their breakfast of bacon, mushrooms and fried egg. During the morning – we played a game of volleyball and cut up wood.

In the afternoon – the sun came out and the Scouts went into the woods trying to find deer prints in the mud. They took prints using plaster of paris. The older Scouts helped build a monkey bridge with the help of Paul and Eddie across one of the three ponds. Once completed - everyone had a go of going over with only a couple nearly falling in!

In the evening – we took them on a 10 mile cycle ride around Fishpits, Alphamstone, Clees Hall, Hornes Green and back via Fishpits. And afterwards we held a camp fire BBQ cooking burgers and sung a few songs.

After breakfast on Sunday we striked camp and Scouts cycled back with Paul and Eddie and 16 Scouts. Everyone who attended gained their nights away and outdoor challenge badges.
