About Us
We are a Scout Group based in Bures on the Essex & Suffolk border providing life changing activities to over 75 young people aged 6 to 18 years old developing skills for life with a Leader & Supporter team of adults. We are proud of everything that our young people achieve, from their first night away from home on a Beaver sleepover to parading at Windsor Castle having achieved their Queen’s Scout Award.
A young person’s Scouting journey can start from just before their 6th birthday in the Beaver section. At 8 years old they can join Cubs, moving on to Scouts when they reach 10.5 years. Then it’s Explorers from the age of 14 years until their 18th birthday when they can join Network. There’s lots more information about all of these stages of Scouting on the main website www.scouts.org.uk.
We welcome adults into a wide variety of roles and none of them demand a weekly commitment! All of our volunteering roles are flexible, whether its being part of the team running one of the sections, or as part of the Executive Committee providing support and governance to the Leaders. If you or your child would like to get involved, then please fill the online form (Join Scouts today) and our GSL will be in contact with you.
We have four Sections in Bures made up of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers. Each section runs their own activities and attends District, County & National events. These events include DofE, hiking, cooking, camping, football, swimming, kayaking, art & crafts, challenges, fire lighting, survival skills, debates and quizzes.
Everything we do is aimed at developing our young people’s resilience, ability to work as part of a team and to develop their Leadership skills ready for their future life as part of our wider community. As Scouts we believe in bringing people together, celebrating diversity and standing against intolerance.
We’re proud of being part of a worldwide movement which is creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.
