We meet on a Tuesday evening from 19.30hrs to 21.30hrs at The Scout Headquarters, The Croft, Bures CO8 5JD

Activities

We offer a wide and varied range of activities that provide a balanced programme, allowing each member to work towards Challenge and Activity Badges and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. These badges are part of the National Explorer Programme aimed at encouraging development and providing new challenges.

Activities are both indoor and outdoors, they include individual tasks as well as team challenges. They range from camping, hiking, climbing, kayaking, District and County Events.

Investiture

New Explorers will be invested in four-six weeks once they have their Explorer Uniform (shirt and activity trousers) and have learnt their Promise and Law. Investiture will take place at the end of the meeting – family members are welcome to attend.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are payable to 1st Bures Explorers. They are currently £45.00 per term per Explorer (January 2024). Subscription money pays for membership fee to Gilwell Park (Association Headquarters), badges, scarves, stationery, postage, Leaders travelling expenses, mini bus mileage and maintenance of SHQ building/grounds, general repairs and cleaning @ £10.00 per head per term.

It does NOT include: District, County or DofE events

Access to the Scout Headquarters

Access to Scout Headquarters to the Explorer meetings by car is from the Sudbury Road entrance (B1508) just passed the cottages (Croft End). You must only access this entrance and EXIT via The Croft ensuring a One-Way System is operational. This helps minimize traffic congestion. The speed limit along The Croft is 10mph. At no time should you EXIT via the Sudbury Road, as it is on a dangerous corner.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
