Beavers meet on Wednesday evenings from 17.45hrs to 19.00hrs at The Scout Headquarters, The Croft, Bures, Suffolk CO8 5JD

Activities

We offer a wide and varied range of activities that provide a balanced programme, allowing each member to work towards Challenge and Activity Badges. These badges are part of the National Beaver Programme aimed at encouraging development and providing new challenges.

Activities are both indoor and outdoors, they include individual tasks as well as team games. They range from arts & crafts and educational items to treasure hunts, sports and District and County Beaver events.

Investiture

New Beavers will be invested in four-six weeks once they have a Beaver top and have learnt their Beaver Promise and Law. Investiture will take place at the end of the meeting – family members are welcome to attend.

Beaver tops should be worn every meeting, once invested, unless otherwise stated.

We will supply a scarf (old gold), woggle and badges at investiture.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are payable to 1st Bures Beavers. They are currently £45.00 per term per Beaver (January 2024). Subscription money pays for membership fee to Gilwell Park (Association Headquarters), badges, scarves, stationery, postage, mini bus mileage, Leaders travelling expenses and maintenance of SHQ building/grounds and cleaning @ £10.00 per head per term.

It does not include: District events.

Access to the Scout Headquarters

Access to Scout Headquarters to Beaver meetings by car is from the Sudbury Road entrance (B1508) just passed the cottages (Croft End). You must only access this entrance and EXIT via The Croft ensuring a One-Way System is operational. This helps minimize traffic congestion. The speed limit along The Croft is 10mph. At no time should you EXIT via the Sudbury Road, as it is on a dangerous corner.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
