District Lead Volunteers – Sudbury District

Date: 3rd Jun 2025 Author: Paul Snelling

Richard Cutting

Richard has held multiple adult roles in Sudbury District and Group levels since he was asked to help at his son’s Cub Section in Kedington in 2008. After a few months he moved to becoming an Assistant Cub Scout Leader then on to becoming the Group Scout Leader. Whilst looking after Kedington Scout Group, he has held roles as a Nights Away Assessor, Training Advisor and Deputy District Commissioner. He is also an active Archery and Air Rifle Instructor within Sudbury District.

Steve Cridland

Steve has been in Scouting for about 23 years, starting off as a parent helper and being told ‘it will only be an hour a week’; this was very true, only there was several 1 hours in a week! He went on to be Assistant Scout Leader for Hadleigh Sea Scouts and then took on Assistant and Deputy District Commissioner roles, all of which have been greatly enjoyed. He has been active in Archery, Canoeing and Kayaking and currently has a Climbing permit for activities with the Sudbury District Climbing team.

I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Charmain Southgate for her service to the District in Assistant and Deputy Commissioner roles since May 2011 and then taking on the full reins in 2017.

I ask all volunteers and young people to welcome and support Richard and Steve as they settle into their new roles and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact them or me.
